Seriously. Get a pair of these now.
Yes, they are expensive. But wow – they’re awesome!
When I first got the original AirPods, and realized just how annoying wires are, I knew I’d never go back to regular ear buds. It’s amazing how many times I’d catch a wire on something and have them ripped out of my ear. So the original AirPods solved this, and provided decent sound and a good mic for phone calls. Life was good.
But then Apple upped the ante with AirPods Pro. They took everything great about AirPods and made them so much better. The fit. The feel. The sound. The noise cancelling. I never really realized how much the regular AirPods and any simple earbuds let in the sounds of the outside world – especially when going for a walk or run.
But after about 3 seconds of putting the AirPods pro in my ears, I was sold. You immediately become immersed in whatever you’re listening to, in a way that’s unlike any other set of earbuds I’ve ever used.
But it’s not all about shutting out the world – press and hold the stem, and transparency mode is enabled, which somehow improves my old man ears and gives me supersonic hearing. OK, that’s an exaggeration, but not by much. Transparency mode augments the sounds around you, simultaneously letting you hear your music or podcast, while still hearing everything happening around you. All this in a way that improves both, and completely unlike how regular AirPods let the outside world drown out whatever you’re listening to.
My only complaint with the AirPods Pro – besides the fact that they suffer from occasional buzz – is that I miss being able to tap the outside to skip ahead in a song, like I can with standard AirPods. Instead, I need to double-click the tiny stem on the AirPod. In the summer / warmer weather, this isn’t too bad, but while wearing gloves or a hat in the winter, it’s kind of annoying.
If you spend any time listening to music or podcasts using any other type of earbud, stop what you’re doing, do yourself a favour, and order some AirPod Pros. They are amazing.
