Wow!

Sure, this site is supposed to be about design, development and running. But why do you think I run? Cause I love food! And one thing I’ve really grown to love is Poutine!

OK, yes, no doubt Poutine is terrible for you. I don’t see it as a core part of any diet plans. But, damn, done right, it’s tasty! And well worth the billion calories it no doubt injects into your system via it’s salty and cheesy goodness.

But, we all need to splurge once-in-a-while, and being a good Canadian boy, every now and then i needs me some Poutine.

For what seems like decades, I’ve been on the lookout for a good, hearty, classic Poutine. Apparently, by today’s standards, a classic Poutine is boring. Everyone wants to to toss Pulled Pork, Chicken, Capers, Anchovies, Truffles or who-knows-what into a Poutine. And, while I guess I can’t begrudge you from having your favourite twist, all I wanted was a boring, basic cheese curds and gravy sensation.

I suppose you can’t blame me. My introduction to Poutine was when the completely Canadian, but certainly non-traditional fast food chain Harvey’s added the French specialty to it’s menu in the late 90s. I worked at Harvey’s during the rollout, and basic and boring became my definition for what Poutine should be. At the time, Harvey’s fries were among the best in the industry (naturally a distant second to the hall of fame McDonald’s fries), and their gravy – the best powdered concoction I am aware of – was top notch. I guess it also helped that everyone I worked with was French Canadian and vouched for this ‘foreign’ food. Soon enough I was hooked.

Eventually I left Harvey’s and never found a Poutine that tingled my memory until today. Today was the day that my Poutine cravings have been completely satisfied by a new-to-me outlet called More Taters Please.

What a delight!

Ordering through their website was a breeze and picking up the 7-ton bag (containing 3 Poutines) was a friendly and orderly experience. The portions were enormous – we ordered ‘regular’ sizes (that each could easily have fed a small family, hence the 7-ton bag) – and were extremely satisfied with every bite. More Taters Please caters to most food preferences, including the vegetarian and gluten free members of my order, and included the strongest plastic fork I’ve ever come across in disposable cutlery.

In addition to Poutines, More Taters offers various wraps and sandwiches, and I can’t wait until my arteries un-clog before I can return to try something new.

My only regret is that I haven’t visited here sooner. If you’ve never been, and your doctor gives you a clean bill of health, I urge you to try this place as soon as possible! You won’t be sorry. Although you will probably want a nap after finishing your meal.
