As a follow up to my last post, I decided to get the iPhone 7 Plus in Matte Black. As the fool I am, I set an alarm for 3:00am last Friday to wake up and order the phone. At the time, I had the intention of ordering the Jet Black version. However, as soon as I was able to get into the pre-order system, I found the Jet Black models had already slipped to an October delivery. Being impatient – and having read some early reviews on just how scratchy the finish is – I decided to go with the Matte. Of course, I then ordered an Apple Silicone case as well, so I probably would have been fine with the Jet. Oh well, it’s launch day, and I now have my phone.
So – first impressions: it’s big. Not insanely huge, as I am used to the size from having a iPhone 6 plus that I use for development. But it’s still big, and will take time getting used to. It looks comically large next to the original iPhone:

Other quick impressions: the screen is great, and so far the new home button doesn’t bug me at all. It’s different, but not in a bad way. I do like the haptic feedback and feel the new Taptic engine is going to be used well by developers as these devices spread.
I haven’t yet had a chance to test out the cameras – which is the main reason I went for the plus, but I imagine I’ll have time this weekend to put it though the paces.
Here’s a few other pictures I took with my now horribly outdated iPhone 6S:
