On Sunday I did something I haven’t done in years.

I ran 10k!

To be fair, it WAS on a treadmill (ugh), but regardless, I did it!

It’s been a l-o-n-g, s-l-o-w road back, but as I mentioned in a previous post, I’m trying to pause every now and then to recognize my accomplishments.

A few months ago – heck, even a couple weeks ago – running 10k seemed absolutely daunting. My brain knew it was possible – that’s what training’s for – but my body kept telling me that I was nowhere near ready. And even though life often gets in the way, I try my best to stick to my training plan. So when I looked ahead and saw that Sunday called for my first double-digit run in at least 5 years, maybe even upwards of 8 or 9 years, I didn’t have high hopes.

But, with the help of my iPad and a couple episodes of the delightful AppleTV + show ‘Your Friends and Neighbours’ I thought I’d give it a try. Mentally I was prepared to bow out if I hit 6k, but everything seemed to be clicking and I blew past 7.5k and ‘cruised’ right on into 10. In fact, I ended at 10.23k as I got distracted by the show.

I didn’t set any speed records, but who cares? Races are measured in distance, not time, so I’ll take the win!
